The highly anticipated Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway is expected to commence soon. During an interview with CGTN, Lu Kang, Chinese ambassador to Indonesia, highlighted the importance of high-speed rail in improving Indonesia's transportation system and creating more jobs. The railway is a signature project under the China-led globalization scheme, the Belt and Road Initiative. Discussions about the railway routinely feature during meetings between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indonesian President Joko Widodo. The high-speed railway will make Indonesia the second country in the world to have fast commercial trains in operation that run at 350 kilometers per hour.
