The history of copperware in China can be traced back to the Sui (581-618) and Tang (618-907) dynasties; and in Kuqa of Aksu Prefecture in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, it has been passed down over a thousand years.
To date, it remains an indispensable household item for local communities. Exquisite copperware – with beautiful patterns reflecting profound historical and cultural themes – is produced through melting, cutting, grinding, and polishing the copper; and its crafting techniques were designated as a protection project with the autonomous region-level intangible cultural heritage in August 2014.
