A Japanese civic group on Friday submitted a "letter of accusation" to the Tokyo District Public Prosecutor's Office against Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) President Tomoaki Kobayakawa over the release of Fukushima nuclear-contaminated wastewater into the Pacific Ocean.

The letter says that there are still radioactive elements that cannot be removed from the Advanced Liquid Processing System (ALPS), a multi-nuclide removal system that removes various radioactive materials from contaminated water.

Japan's discharge plan is extremely serious, said a spokesperson for the civic group at a press conference in Tokyo on Friday, after the letter was submitted.
