Unveiling a mesmerizing Dunhuang mural: A musical journey frozen in time
CGTN

In the murals of the Mogao Grottoes, various musical instruments abound, such as the pipa and the konghou, a Chinese plucked string instrument.

In Cave 112, built over 1,200 years ago, a graceful dancer playing a pipa behind her back is depicted. She appears in the center of the stage, slightly lifting her right leg while bending rightward. Six musicians sit in two groups on either side of the stage, holding different instruments to bring the melody to life. What does the special gesture look like? Do you recognize the instruments on the mural? Check out the cartoon for more.
