Watch: Compressor stations from China and Kazakhstan

In December 2010, a sprawling natural gas pipeline project spanning nearly 1,500 kilometers was launched in Kazakhstan, marking the biggest of its kind since the nation gained independence. Commencing its journey from the town of Beineu, the pipeline traverses the Gobi Desert, passing through six compressor stations and three metering stations before reaching Shymkent, Kazakhstan's third-largest city. From Shymkent, it merges with the China-Central Asia Natural Gas Pipeline, forging an eastern path toward Horgos, in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It then links up with China's West-to-East Natural Gas Pipeline, which acts as a conduit for the distribution of this vital resource to various cities and regions in China, including Shanghai, Fuzhou and Hong Kong. CGTN visits a compressor station along the pipeline in Kazakhstan and the Horgos metering station, shedding light on their important roles in the project.
