Russia would be ready to return to the Black Sea grain deal once all agreements relevant to the accord are fulfilled, said Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday after talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the Black Sea resort Sochi.

Putin said the West has deceived Russia about the humanitarian goals of the grain deal and the food corridors were used by Ukraine for terrorist attacks on Russian infrastructure. Russia exited the deal in July

Russia has repeatedly complained about its food and fertilizer exports being restricted and Ukraine's food exports going to European countries instead of Africa.

Speaking at a joint press conference, Putin announced a proposal to supply African countries with one million tons of grain via Türkiye and with financial support from Qatar. But he clarified that it was not intended as an alternative to the Black Sea grain deal.

Erdogan also said that Ankara was against alternative proposals to last year's Ukraine grain agreement and said that Kyiv should soften its negotiating position against Russia in talks over reviving a grain export deal.

"Ukraine needs to especially soften its approaches in order for it to be possible for joint steps to be taken with Russia," Erdogan told reporters alongside Putin on Monday.

After Russia pulled out from the deal, Ukraine has been working to sending grain across the Black Sea on their own. So far, four ships were sent along a new sea route.
