Environmental, social and corporate governance – often shortened to ESG – is constantly getting brought up by enterprises, particularly in China. At the 2023 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), ESG development was highlighted in many discussions and exhibitions. 

But why is ESG so popular in China? CGTN talked to Pan Qingzhong, the executive dean of the Schwarzman Scholars Program at Tsinghua University, who specializes in ESG education for executive leaders and also attended a panel on public relations and ESG development for Chinese enterprises.
