China has made great strides in enhancing wetland conservation and restoration in recent years, improving the living environment of wetland organisms, including tens of millions of birds.

Within the Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve, 1.36 billion yuan ($202 million) has been invested in 17 wetland restoration projects. As a result, the number of bird species in the sanctuary has increased from 187 at its inception to 373 today.

Home to the largest distribution of mangrove forests in China, Zhanjiang, a coastal city in Guangdong Province, has planted nearly 1,500 hectares of mangrove trees over the last two decades. The number of bird species in Zhanjiang has increased from only 194 in 2002 to 312 this year.
