Typhoon Haikui unleashed heavy rain on the southeastern Chinese city of Xiamen. Haikui, the 11th typhoon of this year, landed in the coastal areas of Dongshan County of Fujian Province on September 5, causing severe water-logging in low-lying areas and prompting the local police to impose traffic controls. The local meteorological observatory maintained a red alert for rainstorms, with all schools, kindergartens, training agencies and nurseries suspending their services for the day. More than 10,000 local residents have been transferred to safe places, and various rescue forces have been put on alert for emergency response in Fujian Province.
