Typhoon Haikui, the 11th typhoon of this year, made landfall in the coastal areas of southeast China's Fujian Province and south China's Guangdong Province on Tuesday, according to local authorities.

The typhoon had made landfall on Taiwan Island on Sunday, and this is the second landfall its made. The typhoon landed in the coastal areas of Dongshan County of Fujian at around 5:20 a.m. and Raoping County of Guangdong at about 6:45 a.m., bringing gales of up to 18 and 20 meters per second near its center, the meteorological observatories of Fujian and Guangdong respectively said.

The Ministry of Water Resources and the Meteorological Administration of Chin had jointly issued a red meteorological warning for mountain flood. It is estimated that mountain floods are likely to occur in eastern and southern Fujian Province, while other areas may also experience flood due to regional short-term torrential downpour.

In Zhangzhou and Putian cities, kindergartens as well as primary and secondary schools suspended class to avoid danger.

In Raoping County of Guangdong Province, local authorities also launched a series of activities including monitoring and patrolling areas with high risks of landslides and flood. Jiangxi Province in east China also issued Level Four Emergency Response as a reaction of Haikui.

Haikui is expected to move westward at 10 to 15 kilometers per hour and gradually weaken, according to the Guangdong meteorological observatory.
