Units of armed police in Fujian have been racing against time to carry out rescue operations and dredging in rural areas of the eastern Chinese province hit by typhoon-induced downpours. In Jingyang County, armed police forces swiftly assembled, carrying professional rescue machinery and rushed to the flood-hit Jingyang Town. After more than six hours of continuous struggle in the rain, more than 3,000 meters of roads and over 30 meters of flood discharge channels were cleared, and some 1,000 cubic meters of silt and garbage were removed. Armed police units stationed in the area transferred some residents trapped on the top floors of buildings to safety.
