Nine people were killed in a gas spurt accident Thursday in the city of Ordos, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, according to local authorities.

Around 3:40 p.m. Thursday, a high-pressure gas spurt occurred at a workshop in an industrial park in Hangjin Banner, which resulted in multiple workers falling from elevated positions, according to the emergency management bureau of Ordos.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
