How hard is it to build a highway in the Karakoram mountains?

Stretching from Kashgar in China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region to Pakistan's Islamabad, covering a distance of approximately 1,200 kilometers, the Karakoram Highway is one of the world's highest-altitude highways and the only road linkage between China and Pakistan.
