When rhetoric contradicts facts, there must be other motives behind it. John Ross, former director of the economic and business policy for the mayor of London, said in the interview that even with the slowdown in global economic development, China's economic performance far surpasses that of Western countries. By hyping up the "China in decline" rhetoric, the West seeks to dissuade international companies from investing in China and demoralize the Chinese people. And by exaggerating U.S.'s economic "success," it seeks to misdirect China into taking wrong economic policies, thereby delaying China’s economic development. As for China’s domestic problems, Ross suggests that China needs to increase its domestic market demand and solve the problem of profitability. But compared to the extreme low growth rate in the West, he believes these problems are small.
