The U.S. and the UK on Thursday issued sanctions against 11 Russian nationals that they accuse of being members of a cyber criminal gang.

The U.S. Treasury Department said Thursday's action targeted "key actors involved in management and procurement for the Trickbot group" and cited the gang's alleged ties to Russian intelligence services.

"These cyber criminals thrive off anonymity, moving in the shadows of the internet to cause maximum damage and extort money from their victims," British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said in a statement.

The two countries imposed sanctions against seven leading members of Trickbot in February, accusing the group of targeting hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the U.S. government and American companies.
