The death toll from a cyclone in Brazil rose to 39 on Thursday as residents began to clean up the wreckage left in its wake. The storm has battered more than 60 southern cities since September 4. Many victims were trapped in cars and houses that were washed away or shocked by electrical wires. At least nine people are still missing.
