The 18th Group of 20 (G20) Summit is going to take place on Saturday and Sunday in New Delhi, India.
China has consistently emphasized that it firmly upholds multilateralism in the past summits, opposing unilateralism and protectionism. The country's foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning called for strengthening partnership at this year's summit, against the background of increasing global challenges, at a press conference on Monday.
At a time when the world economy is under increasing downward pressure and global sustainable development is facing more difficulties, the G20 should strengthen partnerships, work together to address prominent challenges in the international economic and development fields, and make positive contributions to promoting the recovery and growth of the global economy and sustainable development, said Mao.
"China hopes that the G20 Summit in New Delhi will build consensus on this, convey confidence and jointly promote prosperity and development," Mao added.
This year's summit, themed "One Earth, One Family, One Future", will focus on inclusive growth, digital innovation, climate resilience, and equitable global health access, among other topics.
Created in 1999, the G20 is the premier forum for international economic cooperation. It comprises 19 countries plus the European Union. The G20 members represent around 85 percent of the global GDP, over 75 percent of the global trade, and about two-thirds of the world population.
