Japan has been releasing nuclear-contaminated water from the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean since August 24. The news has sparked continuous attention and opposition worldwide.

On the other side of the Pacific, CGTN Stringer hit the streets of Peru to interview local residents. Most refused to believe the Japanese government's claim that dumped nuclear-contaminated wastewater meets safety standards and will not cause harm to human health or the environment. One resident said, "If it is radioactive waste, I don't think it can be completely cleaned." Another said, "There will always be residue, and it will have an impact on the ecosystem."
