Live updates: Powerful quake jolts Morocco

- On September 8, a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Morocco at 11:11 p.m. local time at a depth of 18.5 kilometers. The epicenter is located in the Al Haouz Province, about 70 km south of the historic city of Marrakesh.

- At least 2,946 people were killed and 5,674 others were injured in the disaster, local media reported on Wednesday, citing the country's Interior Ministry. 

- Quake victims in remote mountainous areas were struggling to as they lack basic necessities and shelter.

- Morocco has not experienced a disaster of this magnitude since 2004 when a magnitude-6.3 earthquake hit the port city of Al Hoceima, killing around 630 people.
