Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for Heilongjiang to be built into a pivotal gateway for the nation's northward opening up. Qu Qiang, a research fellow of Beijing Foreign Studies University, says the northeastern Chinese region has many advantages not only in food production but also in the innovation of the science and technology industry.
