Air China flight CA403 from Chengdu to Singapore safely landed at the Changi Airport in Singapore at 4:14 p.m. on Sunday after encountering smoke in the forward cargo hold and lavatory, with nine crew members and 146 passengers evacuated safely, Air China said in a statement, adding that an investigation is underway.
"The fire in the left engine has been put out," the Changi Airport said in a statement.
Air China and airport operator Changi Airport Group are assisting the passengers and crew. Runway 3 will be temporarily closed, and flight operations could be affected, the airport operator said.
