China launched a remote sensing satellite from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China's Shanxi Province on Sunday.

The satellite, Yaogan-40, was launched by a modified version of the Long March-6 carrier rocket at 12:30 p.m. Beijing Time and has entered its preset orbit.

It will be used for electromagnetic environment detection and related technical tests.

The launch marks the 487th mission of the Long March carrier rocket series.
