Chinese Premier Li Qiang said on Saturday that the central trend in ties between China and the European Union (EU) is cooperation, and the relationship is win-win in nature.

In his meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on the sidelines of the G20 summit, Li also said that China and the EU, as two major forces in a multipolar world and two major engines of global development, should come together even closer and step up their cooperation.

He called on both sides to offset uncertainties in the international landscape with the stability of China-EU relations.

China is willing to work with the European side to hold the China-EU Leaders' Meeting this year, deepen mutual trust, resolve differences through communication and consultation, and work together to make more positive contributions to the cause of global peace and development, Li said.

He urged the EU not to equate interdependence with insecurity, nor to politicize economic issues or overstretch the concept of security. China's development and opening-up bring opportunities, not risks, to Europe and the world, and China stands ready to strengthen communication and collaboration with the European side to enhance the reliability and stability of China-EU economic and trade ties, he said.

Li expressed hope that the EU can uphold the principles of market economy and fair competition, keep its trade and investment markets open, and provide a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Europe.

China is willing to further deepen its green partnership with the EU, strengthen dialogue and cooperation in areas such as clean energy and green finance, and provide support to developing countries in addressing climate change, he added.

Von der Leyen said that since the beginning of this year, EU-China exchanges have been strengthened and achieved positive results. The EU is willing to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with China in various fields and jointly tackle global challenges such as climate change.
