Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao hold joint maritime rescue exercise
00:57

A Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao joint maritime search and rescue exercise was staged Tuesday in waters off the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

The exercise simulated a high-speed passenger ship colliding with an engineering ship and subsequent rescue. The collision damaged the passenger ship's bow and triggered fires on the engineering ship, and two people fell into the water. Under the organization of on-site commanders, the fallen passengers were saved by an unmanned ship before they were airlifted to a local hospital, and the fire was then put out by fire pumps. Focusing on emergency scenarios in the waters of the Greater Bay Area, the drill helped enhance the coordination and operational capabilities of the maritime rescue forces.
