Russian President Vladimir Putin and visiting top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un held talks at the Vostochny Cosmodrome spaceport in the far east of Russia on Wednesday with the participation of delegations.

As they exchanged opening greetings in front of the media, Putin said they need to talk about a lot of questions including economic cooperation and humanitarian nature.

Earlier on the day, Putin also said Russia will help the DPRK build satellites.

Sitting next to Putin and via a translator, Kim hailed the two countries bilateral relations before the talks.

"Our friendship has deep roots, and now relations with the Russian Federation are the first priority for our country," he said. "I am sure that our meeting will be the next step to take relations to a new level.

He also told Putin that Russia was fighting a sacred war with the West and that the two countries would together battle with imperialism. "We will always support the decisions of President Putin and the Russian leadership ... and we will be together in the fight against imperialism."

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu took part in the talks with Kim, as did Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, images on Russian state television showed.

Kim, arrived at the Russian border town of Khasan early Tuesday, is paying an official visit to the Russian Federation "to put the DPRK-Russia relations of friendship and cooperation to a fresh higher level," according to state agency KCNA.
