In the 1960s, the first barrel of crude oil in the United Arab Emirates was produced at the Bab Oil Field, located 160 kilometers southwest of Abu Dhabi. Today, oil accounts for 60 percent of Abu Dhabi's GDP, driving the UAE's economic growth.
