The death toll from the devastating floods in eastern Libya has surpassed 6,000, said Saad El-Din Abdel-Wakil, the undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in the Government of National Unity, on Wednesday. The situation in Derna, a port city in eastern Libya, is particularly dire, with the number of casualties expected to rise further. Composite satellite images showed Derna before and after the collapse of two dams unleashed a massive flash flood. Collapsed bridges over the river have split the city center, further hampering movement.
