The Dafosi Grottoes, or the Grottoes of the Giant Buddha Temple, are a treasure of Buddhist art and a site that preserves the history of cultural exchanges along the ancient Silk Road. Nestled in Dafosi Village in Binzhou County of Xianyang, Shaanxi, the grotto group is considered to be the biggest in the province. Numbering more than 130, and housing over the 1,980 statues, the grottoes form part of the "Silk Roads: The Routes Network of Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor," a broader collection included in UNESCO's World Heritage List covering sites in China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
