A national forest city refers to a city whose urban ecological system is mainly forest and meets the forest standards set out by the administration.

The administration released assessment criteria to ensure the long-term sustainability of forests. These criteria emphasize the diversity and richness of tree species.

So far, the green coverage rate of urban built-up areas has increased from 39.22 percent ten years ago to 42.69 percent now.

For years, China has been carrying out extensive rural greening campaigns and identified 7,586 national forest villages, with the green coverage rate reaching 32.01 percent.
