Pingtan Island is the closest place on the Chinese mainland to Taiwan, only 68 nautical miles away from Hsinchu Port. Part of a Comprehensive Experimental Area that aims to accelerate the all-round opening up to Taiwan, Pingtan is playing an increasingly important role in promoting integration and development between the two sides.
