The main host city of the 19th Asian Games, Hangzhou City in east China's Zhejiang Province, has finished intensive preparations, including the building of new competition venues and transforming and improving existing ones, in time for the Games' start.

The continental sports event, which will begin on September 23 and conclude on October 8, has followed the policy of hosting a cost-effective Asian Games, embodying the concept of organizing "green, intellectual, frugal and civilized" competitions.

In the leading host city, 44 of the 56 venues have been renovated and upgraded from existing ones, while 12 have been built from scratch.

The use of green electricity in the venues is a major step toward Hangzhou's goal of hosting a carbon-neutral Asian Games.

The Asian Games Village houses the country's first high-power, wireless Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging stations, which are outfitted with eight 500-kilowatt charging devices, eight wireless charging parking spaces and eight V2G charging heaps. To ensure green transportation in that area, the facility will provide an efficient and convenient charging service.

A number of locations have implemented water recycling systems in an effort to promote sustainability. For example, the Fuyang Water Sports Center can save roughly 1,000 tonnes of water every month, accounting for 35 percent of its total use, thanks to a rainwater recycling system.

The Hangzhou Asian Games mascots, whose fabric is manufactured using digital printing technology, are another unique initiative. In comparison to traditional printing technologies, the digital process produces no waste of water, gas or pulp. To reduce air pollution, employees cut the mascot dolls with electric scissors rather than laser tailoring tools.
