The giant panda, a national treasure in China, has captured the hearts of millions of people around the world with its black-and-white fur and rotund body. As one of China signatures, the panda has helped build a bridge between China and many countries. Nowadays, giant pandas are no longer classified as "endangered." They've been downgraded to "vulnerable" on the global list of species at risk of extinction because more than 1,864 have been found.
Since most giant pandas live in southwestern China's Sichuan Province, the local government treasures the animal immensely. Apart from many national natural reserves, the government also names events after the panda to demonstrate people's love for the animal. One popular event that bears the panda name is the international film festival, the Golden Panda Awards, which is held on September 19 and 20 this year.
