China will always promote world peace, contribute to global development, defend the international order and support the United Nations (UN) in playing a central role in international affairs, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng said on Monday.
The more complex and grave the international situation is, the more necessary it is to uphold genuine multilateralism and have a strong UN, Han said in his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by China are highly consistent with the UN's ideals and targets, Han noted.
Guterres expressed his gratitude to China for its firm support for the cause of the United Nations and highly appreciated the important initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, hoping that China will lead the world to move forward to the right direction.
