Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu on Thursday met with Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in New York, U.S.

Ma reiterated China's position on Japan's ocean discharge of nuclear-contaminated wastewater from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

IAEA should uphold an objective, scientific, impartial approach to performing its own responsibilities on Japan's ocean discharge of nuclear-contaminated wastewater and respond to the international community's legitimate and reasonable concerns, Ma told Grossi.

Grossi said that the IAEA highly valued China's position and concerns. The agency will stay in close communication and sound cooperation with China, he added.
