China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's (HKSAR) first high-resolution, remote-sensing AI satellite was completed on Wednesday, and is expected to be launched in late November.
Dubbed "Hong Kong Star," the satellite was developed, assembled, tested at the Hong Kong Satellite Manufacturing Center in the Tseung Kwan O InnoPark.
Equipped with a high-resolution optical camera, it can provide global optical remote-sensing images at a sub-meter level, realizing a variety of applications.
It is able to provide high-precision remote-sensing big data for the Internet of Things, disaster prevention and reduction, emergency response and safety, and smart city construction around the globe, which is conducive to promoting the high-quality economic and social development of Hong Kong.
The satellite will boost Hong Kong's digital economy development and smart city construction, Sun Dong, HKSAR secretary for innovation, technology and industry, said at the ceremony for the satellite's completion.
Sun said the HKSAR government has worked hard to promote the development of innovation and technology, and has put forward a series of policy measures to attract talents and support start-ups, which are significant to the construction of Hong Kong's local technology industry and the deepening of its new industrialization.
