Leafy trees arch over stone bridges and line tranquil canals. Narrow lanes stretch along the waterways where fishermen have sung absent-mindedly on their boats for hundreds of years.
The wood-paneled quaint dwellings, the centuries-old arched bridges, the black-awning boats that dot the ancient stream, all together make the ancient town of Nanxun a visible poem of Jiangnan, offering people today an enchanting glimpse of an ancient charm.
Spanning more than 34 square kilometers, the ancient town in east China's Zhejiang Province is home to popular sites that were once residential properties of local influential people, attracting tourists with their well-preserved architectural styles.
It has been renowned for producing silk since the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties of China. The old water town is a gem of Jiangnan culture that has been inlaid along Taihu Lake for hundreds of years.
