Chinese President Xi Jinping said China is willing to work with Kuwait to take the bilateral ties to new heights and enhance cooperation in various fields, during his meeting with Crown Prince of Kuwait Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in Hangzhou, capital city of east China's Zhejiang Province on Friday.
The crown prince is in Hangzhou to attend the opening ceremony of the 19th Asian Games scheduled for Saturday.
China and Kuwait established diplomatic ties in 1971. During the meeting, Xi noted Kuwait was the first Gulf Arab country to establish diplomatic relations with China and the first country in the Middle East to sign Belt and Road cooperation documents with China.
The China-Kuwait relationship has made significant progress in the past 52 years, yielding great achievements across various fields of cooperation, Xi said, adding that China is willing to work with Kuwait to take the bilateral ties to new heights.
Appreciating Kuwait's participation in the Belt and Road cooperation, Xi said China supports Kuwait in implementing its Vision 2035, a national development plan, adding that China is willing to further synergize development strategies between both countries and strengthen cooperation in fields including investment, energy, infrastructure and digital economy.
Xi also said China is ready to work with Kuwait to implement the outcomes of the first China-Arab States Summit and the China-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit, continuously upgrade the level of collective cooperation between China and Arab States as well as China and the GCC.
Echoing Xi, the Kuwaiti crown prince said the Kuwaiti government and people are proud of the bilateral relations and are satisfied with the fruitful cooperation between the two countries.
Appreciating China's support in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Kuwaiti crown prince said Kuwait will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China policy, firmly support China's position on issues of core interests, and work with China to support the people of all countries in independently choosing development paths that suit their national conditions and have their own characteristics.
He said Kuwait is willing to deepen practical cooperation with China in various fields and strengthen communication and cooperation in the Middle East and the Gulf region.
