Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has said he hopes to expand cooperation with China through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and stressed the initiative poses no threat to other countries as he listed some of the milestone projects and benefits the BRI has brought to Zambia.
Hichilema paid a state visit to China from September 10 to 16 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, in which he talked to China Media Group (CMG) in an exclusive interview.
Following Hichilema's talks with Xi, it was announced that China-Zambia relations had been elevated to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. In an interview with China Media Group (CMG), the Zambian president highlighted a number of successful cooperation achievements between the two countries in fields such as green energy and infrastructure construction, which have all come to fruition under the Belt and Road Initiative. Among them, he cited the benefits brought by the Chinese-built Kafue Gorge Lower Hydropower Station, which entered commission earlier this year after around eight years of construction, and said there will be great potential for the two nations to expand their cooperation.
