Outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. of the Atlanta Braves hit a 3-2 home run during the first inning in Friday's game against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. It's his 40th homer this season, making him the fifth player in Major League Baseball (MLB) history that tallied at least 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in one season.

The other four members of the 40-40 club are Jose Canseco of the Oakland Athletics (1988), Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants (1996), Alex Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners (1998) and Alfonso Soriano of the Nationals (2006).

However, none of them could match Acuna Jr. in stolen bases. The 25-year-old became the first one in major league history with at least 30 home runs and 60 stolen bases in August. By contrast, Rodriguez's 46 steals is already the highest of the other four, not to mention that he was caught 13 times in 59 attempts. Acuna Jr. was also caught 13 times but in 81 attempts.

The Braves have another eight games to play before the regular season ends, five of which against the Nationals, which have allowed the second-most stolen bases this season. Therefore, Acuna Jr. has a good chance to reach 70 steals. He is six home runs from matching Soriano (46) for the leading record on this front of the club.

Acuna Jr. has slashed .335 (at bats), .414 (on-base percentage) and .592 (slugging percentage) before Friday as well as career-high 101 runs batted in. He also leads the National League in on-base plus slugging (1.006), the second-highest of all five members of the 40-40 club in their 40-40 seasons, behind only 1.076 of Bonds.

The Braves have secured 99 wins by Friday, the most of all teams in the major league. They appeared in the playoffs in every of the past five seasons and won the World Series in 2021. The last time they won 100 or more games was in 2022.
