An 18-meter-tall installation in the shape of a flower basket has been unveiled in central Beijing to celebrate the upcoming National Day holiday, from September 29 to October 6, which also includes Mid-Autumn Festival this year.
Themed "Blessing the Motherland," the installation features auspicious designs. The giant versions of peonies and sunflowers in the installation symbolize prosperity in Chinese culture, while the five different grains decorations in the basket – namely rice, wheat, foxtail millet, broomcorn millet, and soybeans – are symbols of abundance.
National Day floral decorations in central Beijing can be traced back to 1986. The construction of the giant flower basket installation started in 2012. Over time, its form has been perfected, with various designs and themes each year.
The basket installation has also become a top seasonal tourist attraction for visitors to stop for photos.
