China has done well so far in securing grain harvests and is on track for a bumper crop for the entire year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

The three components of China's overall grain output are early rice, summer grain and fall production.

The ministry's most recent agricultural report indicates that over 20 percent of China's farmlands used to raise autumn plants have been harvested. More than half of the autumn grains have already been harvested in the southwest.

Changshun County in southwest China's Guizhou Province saw an investment of over 16 million yuan ($2.19 million) this year to purchase agricultural machinery and keep improving the county's agricultural infrastructure, which boosted output and enhanced the quality of rice production.

In the Northeast China Plain, early-maturing rice types are ready for harvest. A cold-tolerant rice variety was created in Tieli City of Heilongjiang Province in northeastern China after four years of study and cultivation.

An effort has also been made to create potato planting bases in Shanxi Province in north China, and the planting area has grown from one county to 11.

The formerly desolate saline-alkali farmland in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, east China, is now alive with the sound of farming equipment, and ecological rice and rapeseed oil products from the region are distributed all over the country.

In addition to the rice-wheat rotation, improved saline-alkali land is continuously expanding, allowing for the cultivation of crops including corn, soybeans and rapeseed. Jilin Province in northeast China has also had considerable success raising the grain productivity of its saline-alkaline soil.

According to the country's 2023 government work report, China aims to stabilize its annual grain output at over 650 billion kilograms.
