A total of 190 million railway trips are estimated to take place in China during the 12-day travel rush from September 27 to October 8, when the Mid-Autumn Festival coincides with the National Day holiday, said China State Railway Group (China Railway) on Wednesday.
The country's railway system is expected to manage 15.83 million trips daily on average, and the passenger flow is expected peak on September 29 with more than 20 million passengers to be served.
The passenger flow via railway shows a robust growth momentum, as the overlap of the two holidays contributes to a longer break, triggering people's strong willingness for traveling, according to the passenger transport department at China Railway.
To meet the traveling demands, the railway department plans to run more than 11,500 passenger trains per day, an increase of over 1,850 trains compared to normal days, and more than 12,000 trains will be scheduled to run on the day with the largest flow.
