Chinese President Xi Jinping has encouraged the children of martyrs to contribute to the endeavors of building a strong China and realizing national rejuvenation.
Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks on Thursday in a letter replying to eight such children who are currently studying at the People's Public Security University of China. They wrote to Xi recently about their study, training and determination to honor the legacy of their parents and contribute to a safe China.
In the letter dated September 28, two days before the Martyrs' Day of China, Xi noted that it is a scared responsibility for the police to safeguard national security and social stability and act as guardians of people's happy and tranquil life.
He encouraged the students to follow the examples of their heroic parents' generation and dedicate themselves to building a safe China.
More than 3,700 of the 17,000 police officers from public security agencies who made the ultimate sacrifice in service since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949 have been honored as martyrs.
Xi has on many occasions stressed the importance of taking care of the families of those who died in service.
