The number of railway trips made by Chinese passengers on Friday, the third day of the 12-day travel rush for the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, hit 20.098 million, the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. said on Saturday.
According to the company, the figure is a record-high number of daily railway passenger trips in China.
There were a total of 12,180 passenger trains in operation on Saturday, with about 17.6 million railway passenger trips, the company added.
The Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday period, which lasts from September 29 to October 6 this year, is a peak travel and tourism season in China.
During the 12-day travel rush lasting from September 27 to October 8, the country is expected to see 190 million railway trips in total, said the company.
