Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Sunday that the "terrorists" will never achieve their aims in the wake of a bomb attack in the capital on Sunday.

"The villains who threaten the peace and security of citizens have not achieved their objectives and will never achieve them," he told an opening session of the Turkish parliament's general assembly.

Earlier on Sunday, an explosion was reported at the gate of a police compound near the Turkish Interior Ministry in Ankara, and two police officers were slightly injured.

Turkish authorities have declared the attack, which no group has claimed responsibility for, a terrorist act, saying two criminals were "neutralized."
