Throughout history, Chinese literati and painters have used their brushes and words to depict the ever-changing beauty of Hangzhou's West Lake, its stories and the spirit of each era, which has endowed it with a unique cultural depth and an Eastern artistic aesthetic. "The lines of West Lake are simple and pure. That's why I decided to paint the 'Ten Scenes of West Lake,' even though doing so is generally thought to be very challenging," said Chen Jialing, a renowned figure from the Shanghai School of Painting.
