In Bangladesh, September was the deadliest month for dengue fever since 2000, with an average of 13 people dying each day from the mosquito-borne disease.

Dengue claimed 396 lives in September, including 14 new deaths announced Saturday by the Ministry of Health's Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The DGHS also reported 2,425 new confirmed cases, bringing the total number of verified cases to 203,406 since January.

According to health department estimates, 989 individuals have died from dengue disease in Bangladesh so far this year.

The monsoon season in Bangladesh, which is considered a high-risk country for the mosquito-borne disease, runs from June to September.
