World-leading waterless dye reduces environmental 'cost of colors'
02:29

The beauty of fashion lies very much in the ever-changing shades of colors - but that's also part of the industry's ugly side as textile dyeing is one of the most polluting industries in the world. Traditional methods use huge amounts of water to carry dyes to fabrics, and the colorants that don't bind to textile fibers often end up in our waterways, causing serious environmental and health hazards.

In the southern city of Foshan, scientists have developed a recyclable eco-friendly solvent to make fashion safer for our planet, while ensuring the solution is cost-effective enough to apply on an industrial scale.
