E-sports demystified: Hangzhou is showing the way

E-sports has made its debut as a proper medal event at the 19th #AsianGames. Among the seven matches, Team China won four gold medals and one bronze medal. It’s still a budding industry and people often confuse it with gaming and wonder why it can even become a sporting event. Chris Chan, secretary general of Singapore National Olympic Council and president of the Global Esports Federation, tells Wang Guan that like other sports, e-sports involves strategy, skills, teamwork. Competitors need to stay sharp and nimble, and exhibit stunning coordination ability. Being part of the Asian Games is a milestone for e-sports, Chan reckons, saying that "Hangzhou is showing the way."
