Chinese traditional culture, especially Confucianism, is undergoing a renaissance in China. No one is more familiar with this development than Professor Roger Ames, the humanities chair at Peking University and professor emeritus of philosophy at the University of Hawaii. Ames has devoted decades to studying Confucianism. CGTN's Tian Wei had quite an enlightening conversation with him on the influence of Confucianism today. He said Confucianism is pivotal to understanding China because much of Chinese culture from ancient times to the present day is rooted in this philosophy. He has confidence that it is a better model than the individualism that prevails today.
